However a strong 2nd 20 overs restricted Wicklow to 105-8. there were two wickets for Fintan and Vidhya, one for Ian Smillie and Ben Makin (first senior wicket) and two run outs. It was always going to be a tricky run chase and it started badly with 3 wickets down with just 26 runs on the board. However, a patient 24* from skipper Tom and a big hitting 50* from Ian Smillie in an unbroken 82 partnership saw the 6ths over the line.

What a weekend for the youth teams in the club. Firstly on Friday the under 15s won their semi final and will play the
delayed Final at home on Tues at 5pm against North County. Please support the team if you can. Then on Saturday the
under 13B1 team game was postponed due the ground conditions however the Under 11 girls played YMCA and won, keeping their great form going. Meanwhile in Leinster the under 11A team bounced back after an indifferent batting display to win comfortably. They got a good start defending 86 for 10 wkts but the spin twins took 9 wickets in 8 overs before the seamers came back to polish the game off. On Sunday, the under 13 made sure we did the double over Leinster and the 100% record remains intact while in Malahide the under 13 girls won a tight game. The girls are making great sides and are very competitve this season. Finally in a non competitive game (they didnt know that!!) the under 9s beat North Kildare while also at North Kildare a very tidy under 11Bs also won with a fine performance. A great finish to a great weekend.

This week saw a full schedule of midweek games, with Junior and Leaving cert students finishing up their exams. The U15B team travelled to Rush however a downpour half way through put an end to the game. At least they got to bat but the 17 team went to North County and a sodden square meant no play was possible. On Wednesday the U11Bs hosted YMCA and won in an even game that swung our way close to the end while on Thursday evening in beautiful sunshine the U13A's kept up their winning ways, this time in the cup when beating North County.

Youth Roundup
On an extremely busy weekend for youth fixtures we had 5 games on Saturday and another 3 on Sunday. On Saturday the
U11 girls won again when beating Rush. A great result. The u11B boys team went to Cabra but a downpour meant the game could not continue after we had batted. Meanwhile the U11A team were in Pembroke for a 2nd Rd Cup match. Unfortunately, an ordinary performance in the field left just too much to do for the batters and despite a brave effort we fell 6 runs short. Nearby in YMCA the U13As continued their winning ways with a victory. The final game on Saturday saw the u13B2 team in Leinster where the lost but again this team might not be getting the victories but the young side are putting together some good individual performances and are benefitting from the experience.

On Sunday the U13 girls played a strong Railway side and lost. Again it was a good performance and we are now competing in all our games. There are some very promising girls coming through. Our u11C team travelled to Malahide and maintained their unbeaten record. Back on home soil the u13B1 beat Phoenix with another strong performance.

On Monday the 2nds beat Civil Service in the Tillian Cup (20/20) by 3 wickets. Civil Service were all out for 86 with Vijay Gopal pick of the bowlers with 3-10. In a nervous run chase Paul Ryan kept a cool head to see the 2nds over the line finishing unbeaten on 28.

Sun 12 June
2nds, 5ths and 7ths cup games were all cancelled due to rain.

It was a quiet weekend for youth cricket, with Sunday's under 11 and under 9 games against North Kildare rained off while on Sunday the U13s were given a walk over in the 1st round of the cup. They will now play North County. However the one game that did take place was the Under 13 girls against Leinster and it resulted in a win for our girls, which is notable as Leinster are one of the top girls clubs, well done.

Sat 11 June
@ Castle Avenue (Irish Senior Cup), Clontarf 1sts lost to Brigade by 9 wickets.
Losing the toss the 1sts were put into bat. Eoghan Delany top scored with 34 not our and the total of 169-7 for always going to be difficult to defend. Brigade got there in the 40th over for the loss of just one wicket, which means the quest for the first ever Irish Senior Cup must wait another year.

Weds 8 June
@ Castle Avenue , Clontarf Ladies 1sts beat The Hills by 73 runs.
Match report:
A second victory makes for a great start to the season from the ladies firsts. On Wednesday the ladies beat the Hills by 73 runs in very wet conditions. We put a 157 runs on the board with the main contribution coming from Emma Thompson who made 96 runs and one broken window, not out. Laura Cullen made a nice 36 runs and looked to be getting some of her old confidence back despite the rain. The second innings was more of an all round team effort with catches taken by Laura Cullen, Marguerite Burke and two for Vivienne Shaw. Gladys took three wickets for 15 runs off 4overs and Laura Erskine took her first senior wicket followed closely by her second and third for just 4 runs in 2 overs. She even threatened to get her first senior hat-trick! The bowlers were Emma Thompson(14 runs off 3 overs), Laura Cullen(28 runs off 4 overs), Olivia Golden(12 runs off 3 overs) and Cecily McGeer had a very nice spell keeping the Hills at 9 runs off her 4 overs. Next week we play Leinster at home on the Wednesday and Malahide away on the Friday so I’ll keep you posted. Well done again to all the girls.

The under 11As travelled to Phoenix for a league game and followed on their victory in the cup with solid batting and bowling performances in beating the home side

@ Kenure, Clontarf 6ths beat Rush by 186 runs. (game reduced to 38 overs per side)
Put into bat on the new mat Rush the Traf top order had a great day. Opener Vidhya smashed 38 before being run out. A partnership of 103 from Paul McShane and Brendan Duggan pushed the score on before Paul was run out on 36. Despite a rain break Brendan and Muhammed Amir took full advantage of the short boundaries with an exibition to push the score onto 265-2 off the 38 overs. Brendan finished on 91 not out with Muhammed smashing 58 not out which included two huge sixes.

If Rush thought the Tarf lads would be complacement with runs on the board they were sorely mistaken. Vidhya led the charge with 3-22 off 6 overs including the wicket of F Ismail who hit a ton for Rush the previous week. Credit to Neil Smillie for taking the one handed catch to ensure Rush's danger man didn't trouble the scorers. There was also two wickets for Kevin Mullins, Neal Smillie and one each for Adam Craig and Orwell and a super run out when Vidhya dived and stopped one in the covers and managed to get the ball back to keeper Tom who gratefully took the bails off. It was without doubt the best all round performance by the 6ths since they started 3 years ago and gives them maximum points to bring it to 3 wins out of 4.

The under 13s continued their good run of form with a win over Phoenix in a game of high quality. We came out winners by about 30 runs with solid all round performamces. The under 13B(2) team travelled to Rush but without success. this is a young and inexperienced team who are learing and improving all the time. Finally the U11Cs were comprehensive winners over Phoenix and are unbeaten to date. The team took 17 wickets while only losing 3. A good weekend.

The under 11A team advanced to the 2nd round of the cup with a very impressive all round performance in beating Leinster.
