In the First Round of the Minor cup, skipper Tom won the toss and chose to bat. 33-0 went to 33-3 in no time. Vidhya continued his superb form scoring 43. At drinks things didnt look too good at 61-5 but Amir and Tom dug in and moved things on to 88 before Amir chipped one back to the bowler. Neal Smillie came to crease and smashed his first two balls for 4. Tom fell 3 overs later caught at slip. Another wicket fell to bring debutant Rory Sullivan in who held up his end very well to support Neal. Number 11 (for the first and last time) Sean Dunne (also on debut) played like a top order batsman hitting a 4 and a huge 6 in his 21 with Neal left stranded on 39 not out. 150 didn't seem like a big total but the skipper thought it could be defended with some good bowling... and good bowling was indeed what was delivered.
Vidhya took a wicket in the first over with the opener caught behind to give the perfect start. He took another 3 wickets off 3 brilliant inswinging deliveries to each time send the stumps cartling. His figures of 4-4 off 4 speak for themselves. Adam Craig also got the ball swinging to take 3-1 in 2 overs, two clean bowled and an lbw. Neal Smillie took two wickets in his one over before Sean Dunne took the last wicket to have Mullingar all out for 19. The 6ths and 7ths are now in Round 2 of the Minor Cup.
